its a great concept but will never pass. the insurance companies will be flooding these guys with tons of money to not pass it. the politicians depend on this money for there own war chests. the government should make it illegal to accept money from these guys. I hope it passes but highly doubt it.
Single-family payer allows the government to become the insurer. It can negotiate charges per billable action, test, procedure country- wide. Medicare and Medicaid do this now - and it works.SP also allows the government to actuate cost through very large groups, spreading the liability, and cost. If you are familiar with Medicare and supplementals- the payout per code is actually about 30% of actual billed amount- and the provider, having agreed to this amount, still makes money. It can be done.
This is no different from the republican minority under Obama voting to repeal the ACA when they knew it had no chance of happening. Political Theater. Also, how many democrats would be willing to vote for the massive tax increase that a single payer law would require? 1% on their own can't pay for it. The deficit is already high, and we just got hit by 2 hurricanes that will need to be paid for. I like the idea of a public option, and possibly a medicare buy-in at age 55, but medicare for all is not realistic.
To bring down the cost you'd have to go one payer. Insurances have been ripping off the American people while making billions What they charge is out and out robbery.
To say this will eliminate the insurance industry is false. Someone has to pay the claims and keep the books. Will they now be government employees with the pay and benefits of the government? How does that save money? Bernie has nice thoughts but needs to retire and take his socialism with him.
Single payer for who? It will be for the general public. Not for the governmentally employees, not for the rich. It will be for the middle class and the poor. The middle class for it all.
1st step in the battle for single payer. We'll get there but the obstruction will be well funded. I hope I live to see the day.
The cost difference is what is going to matter most. Give me numbers that I can work with and I'm on board. I would rather pay into a system that isn't still going to bill me for everything because of deductibles.
Fix the military budget and close loopholes in corporate taxes. Maybe if these companies have some skin in the game they won't be so quick to poison us. It's time!
Not sure this is different than the Reps repeal Obamacare rant over the last few years. Easy to do when you know there is no way it gets to law.
