Hmm a new tax vs the 7200/year I pay for my employer sponsored coverage that doesn't include dental & vision. I only get a "discount" on those two items with my coverage. Oh and potentially Long wait times, well that's already happening...so no change there.I say bring on the single payer!!
There is NO reason why the most advanced country in the world should NOT have free health care for everyone, other than the greedy insurance companies backed by greedy Republicans. I can understand that the goal in business is to make money, but health care is NOT a business. It's life and death, and should be exempt from this model. And again, the only reason it is NOT, is greed. Hey, health insurance companies, make your money some other way. And if you can't, tough. Get a real job.
Thank you Bernie. I know this has very little chance of passing especially with this administration but we have to start somewhere and this is a huge start. And I take comfort in knowing no matter what happens, with you at the helm, this fight will continue.
Single Payer is good for businesses. It removes all their costs and responsibilities and it costs the taxpayer about half per capita than private insurance does. Health protection could be like fire protection: You pay your taxes and get the service when needed. Everyone is fine with how the fire department is funded, right?
Maybe I am missing something, and feel free to set me straight if I am - but I would think that, except for insurance companies, big business would be all over this and screaming for single payer. Health care premiums are a huge expense for companies. Getting out from under that expense would free up all kinds of money. For a smaller company like mine, it would mean hiring more people. Even if we had to pay some kind of new healthcare tax, as long as it was less than what we pay in premiums, it would be a windfall.
I really am cynical now. My first thought was that the Senate Democratic caucus is NOW supporting it because it might not succeed. They get to look like heroes and say "Look we tried". I hope I am wrong.
I think Bernie is a good person, and really wants to help, but when I read there hasn't been any offerings of how to finance the plan, I figured "par for the course" sadly
As the are noted, Republicans are most interested in ending existing policies instead of passing new ones. Such is the way for the obstructionists. It's a travesty really. President Obama made a lot of progress for our country and we are systematically being stripped of those advancements.
The first five senators out of the box are proof that the Democrats have a far deeper "bench" than the press would have us believe. Try naming five acceptable and admirable Republican senators. Yeah, thought so.
the US gov. spends $598 billion in military every year. the miltary waste in the wars of Afghanistan and Iraq has riched $3 trillion and both of them were total loss, even worse they created our worst enemies like ISIS. All this $ is tax payer's - we could have best health care system (single-payer) like any other developed nation if our government wanted to take care of its people before involving itself in other nations internal affairs.
