As Singaporeans, we have no preference for any gender, ethnicity or religion of the elected President as long as he/ she is qualified, publicly voted and has the heart to serve the people. What appalls us are the ways the ruling party manipulated the system and changed the constitution to plant a ruling party member as President, the fake transparency in the process and how the Government treats Singaporeans as stupid to accept this. The promise of democracy in our national pledge is fake and subjected to the definition of the ruling party in their own favour. National shame. #notmypresident
Of course not. No who is elected, if he or she was a PAP member, there will be a lot of noise from the 30.1 who are still hurting.
Another chance at total corruption ! Doesnt matter if its a male or female, they always serve themselves first because they think they are so special and grandly deserving.
Iran was once an empire and a develop land until islam came in and stop the progress and now Singapore is going downward instead of forward.
Not everyone is celebrating her success because she is a Muslim and belongs to minority community and perhaps it more difficult to digest that a woman will become the president considering the political class is highly male dominated in Singapore
Women leaders are certainly more sensible than men tho Angela Merkel isn't the right example. We must not forget personalities like Margaret Thatcher, Golde Mayer and the like.
Singapore is the most amazing country in Asia after Israel . Two of the key reasons why they are successful because the government tightly control the media and political freedom is limited...
America should do the same .
Private ownership of media must be banned and it should be held under a trustee or public listed. Private ownership of media leads to partisan politics and dishonest none objective media coverage.
I think even the chief executive election in Hong Kong had more integrity than this. Goes to show that there is no such as a benevolent dictatorship. Yes, as dictatorships go, the SG one is relatively clean, but they have clearly shown now that they will never voluntarily relinquish the reigns of power. Come what may
who cares whether u celebrate her victory or not, they are just hating on her because she is muslim, why, why, why, what did islam do to u people
Don't get conned.
The country still practices chinese favouritism, initiated by the ex and late PM, Lee Kuan Yew, when he stated that singapore must always have a chinese majority. Thereafter, began a whole load of policies to entrench chinese supremacy in all arenas.
It all began in 1987.
And the BBC remained silent on this issue all the way to the present.
