To the people NOT reading the article: there are signed tracks in the park which people can follow without a guide. Unfortunately one of the children ran inside of one of the bogs, fell, and the parents died trying to rescue him.
To answer to some of you: it happened Because The little boy enter that area and so his parents run after him trying To rescue him...not because italians don't respect signals!!!
This is the main reason why I didn't want to bring my children to Yellowstone NP when they were younger. Young kids can be unpredictable, no matter how much you caution them. And your instinct as a parent would be to react immediately. So sad for all of them, especially the boy left behind.
Very hard situation to the surviving son, as when i read the article, he was obviously very shocked and repeatedly asking for the rest of his family, may God grant strength to him in this difficulties
While I feel sorry for their family, the fact that those parents didn't have one eye on their kid the entire time puts the blame solely on them.
Having been there with my children, I can understand the panic of the parents. Plenty of signs to keep within the barriers, but young children can be rebellious and think it is scary fun. Tragic. 😢
I was recently in Yellowstone and watched a family completely ignore the signs and get close to the crater edge in order to take a picture. There were barriers. It is tragic that people died, but it was preventable. The trauma is spread to those who witnessed this and to the responders who came on the scene. Now people are saying to put up a bigger barrier, which hinders the experience. Just follow the rules!
"The drama unfolded during a family trip at the end of the school holidays, when the 11-year-old walked past a barrier into a prohibited area."The 7 yr old had more sense than all of them. 😔
"When the 11 year old walked past a barrier" That quote from the story says it all. Barriers are there for a reason. Parents are supposed to watch children very closely in dangerous areas.
Children are curious. Either make it so NO ONE can stray from the guarded walkway, or close it down. Probably lucky it didn't happen more with the shoddy markers and chains.
