Happy Birthday Mazda Rotaries! 2017 is the 50th anniversary since Mazda's rotary engined Cosmo debuted in Japan. I remember my first experience with the rotary. My friend's father owned an orange 1973 RX-3 wagon, sounded great and was fun car to ride. I knew one day I'd own a rotary too. Well, 44 years and 12 cars (8 being Mazdas) later, I look back at owning not one but two great cars: a 1984 RX-7 (my first car bought new) and my current 2008 RX-8 40th Anniversary Edition. Both were/are great cars in different ways, but the one thing they had in common was the joy of driving over curvy back roads. I traded my RX-7 back in 1990 as I needed more than 2 seats. While I liked my various Mazdas, the RX-7 was the only car that I still regret trading. So, when I had an opportunity in 2011 to purchase a previously owned, low km, and in great shape RX-8 (and a rare 40AE too - only 100 were sold in Canada!) I jumped at the chance. I love my rotary and my feelings are similar to that controversial parting comment in that famous "elixir" commercial in the 70s: "My rotary- I think I'll keep her"
